Much of Gordon's work for Causton’s during the '50s and '60s involved designing posters. He not only did the design but produced the ideas as well. This work shows a complete contrast with his private painting, for which he now had no time. He has examples of about 30 posters, mostly for Tate & Lyle or Robertsons. They are unmounted and now rather fragile. Actual sizes are about 1 metre wide. He has few examples of the original artwork as this was normally destroyed during reproduction: The work was literally cut into four quarters, each piece handed to an engraver who prepared the plate for one printing colour, cyan, magenta, yellow or black. After the first quarter the work was passed round to complete all four plates, and the original finally discarded!
